Well, I have purchased a new Sony PMW-EX1R and I am editing on Premier Pro CS5.5 (Mac). Premier won't work with the MP4 files that the EX1R generates. I searched widely for a way around this. And get the solid solution yet.

Adobe Premiere Pro will work with some MP4 files, but not all. The problem is that they are not the same, which may contain different video/codec and various video frame rates. Like the XDCAM EX MP4 video from Sony EX1R is not an ideal editing format for Premiere Pro. You can try converting the files with some third-party software solutions like Cineform or Brorsoft

Premiere Pro CS5.5/CS4/CS3 and Sony PMW-EX1R Workflow

Step 1: Install and launch the Sony PMW-EX1R video converter on Mac and click the "Add" button to load EX1R separate .mp4 files for converting.

Tip: Check the "Merge into one" box, you can join several EX1R clips together.



Step 2: Select “Format” pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for Premiere Pro.

Step 3: To get a perfect video for editing in Premier Pro CS5.5/CS4/CS3, you’d better press the Settings icon to set the video size as 1920*1080, frame rate as 30fps in the Profiles Settings panel.

Note: For MPEG-2(*.mpg) output format, 30fps is the highest frame rate which can be recognized in Adobe Premier Pro. If you really want to keep the original frame rate, you’d better choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas --> WMV (VC-1) (*.wmv) as the export format.



Step 4: After above settings, hit "Convert" button to start transcoding Sony EX1R MP4 to MPG for directly importing to Premier Pro CS5.5/CS4/CS3.

Once the process completes, you can click "Open" to locate the .mpg files ready to be imported into Adobe Premiere Pro.
